Sofia Bowen Center

- A little bit of history

This technique has been developed in Australia by Tom Bowen (Thomas Ambrose Bowen 1916-1982), a humble man, with no medical background, who considers himself to be an osteopath. At the beginning he was dedicated to research and test the effect of precise moves performed on certain points of the human body. With time he refined the efficiency of the technique and the achieved results were so impressive and significant that he started his own healing Clinique. Even though he works there alone (only with the help of a secretary) the official reports from the National Committee of Inquiry (state Victoria, Australia) show that more than 13 000 people per year have been visiting his Clinique for help. They declare 80% success rate in symptoms associated with a wide range of conditions.

After his death this effective technique spreads quite fast across the borders of the country among more than 26 000 therapists. Today it’s been practiced in more than 40 countries around the world and its efficiency is officially acknowledged by the Medical Authorities of Great Britain and Australia so far.

Because this therapy is so effective, it has been widely embraced by a broad spectrum of people. Healing professionals are impressed by the capability of Bowen therapy and the diversity of problems addressed by it. For instance in 2008 the Bowen Therapy College was created to train therapists in Canada. In United Kingdom the Bowen Technique is now part of the official complementary medicine. Today more and more people discover the clear and effective benefits of this pain relief system named Bowen Therapy.
